Syama Gold mine is located in the south of Mali, West Africa, approximately 5 kms from the town of Fourou, 280km southeast of the capital Bamako and 30km from the Cote d’ Ivoire border. Societe des Mines de Syama S.A. is the operating company of the project in Mali which is a joint venture between the government of the Republic of Mali (20%) and Resolute Mining Limited (80%).
Rock Underground SARL (RUGS) has commenced works to establish a temporary portal from within the original completed Syama pit. It is intended to develop an incline to a permanent portal near the surface in a boxcut for long term access and develop a decline to access the ore remaining under the pit.
The 3 year development contract is to establish access and ventilation to a +2 million tonne per annum sublevel caving operation, by employing and training more than 100 Malians to safely operate in the underground mine.
