Scope:

Mechanised Lateral Development and Production Activities, Shaft Sinking, Fleet Maintenance and Workforce Training.

The project is located on Halmahera Island, in the North Maluku Province of the Republic of Indonesia, approximately 2,450 kilometers north east of the national capital, Jakarta.

PT Byrnecut Indonesia and PT Newcrest Halmahera established an alliance agreement to undertake the mining activities at the Kencana Underground Mine in 2006.

Byrnecut’s scope of work included portal construction, decline and lateral development, shaft sinking, production drilling, charging and haulage. Byrnecut also undertook the maintenance of the mining fleet.

The mining method was predominately under hand cut and fill using paste fill, achieving 500,000 t per year.

Byrnecut’s commitment to safety and training, allowed for the training and up skilling of a competent Indonesian work force, as well as putting plans in place for the client to take over operations when steady state was achieved.

PT Byrnecut Indonesia continues its involvement in Indonesia with a maintained ability to employ highly skilled Indonesian’s at other Byrnecut projects around the world, including Saudi Arabia and Mali.
